Sylvester Stallone's Three Day Stay In Sydney Australia, Was, No Pun Intended, Rocky
Sylvester Stallone left Sydney Australia, and unfortunately his arrival and 3 day stay was somewhat, 'Rocky'. The actor-director left Monday for Thailand to work on the fourth sequel, entitled 'John Rambo’.
During his Premiere tour of 'Rocky Balboa', his private jet flew into Sydney Australia where customs officials allegedly found some questionable items that were caught by luggage x-ray. Custom Officials held him and his associates up for so many hours, that the actor missed the Premiere on February 16, 2007.
The following Monday, the officials allegedly investigated Mr. Stallone further, by searching for illegal substances (a type of human growth hormone), they raided his suite at the Park Hyatt hotel, where it’s been reported in Australia that further evidence had been seized. His private jet, and limo were also raided.
Stallone was still signing autographs on the street, and tending to his public despite the stress he was under, as the Australian Authorities had allegedly delivered a summons to answer charges on the prohibited substances. The officials refused to reveal what type of substances they were, but allegedly it was a banned type of steroids that they allegedly seized at the airport.
Sylvester Stallone’s jet was cleared to leave Australian Air on Monday. It’s unknown what action the Australian Authorities will take, as the case reportedly isn’t closed, and they are able to track him. Besides illicit drugs, Australia prohibits the unlicensed importation of a wide range of steroids and performance-enhancing substances for sporting use. Mr. Stallone could face up to 5 years in jail, and up to 100,000 in fines.
Sylvester reportedly accounted that it was a mistake, he misread the customs criteria and it was a minor thing. It was also reported that the crew traveling with him, had said the Australians were polite, and doing their job. 'It was a pleasant stay in Australia.'
In gathering all the facts, there were no concluding comments directly stated by authorities to be found, specifying that Sylvester Stallone had indeed smuggled anything into the country of Australia. Where Australia is a sport promoted country, they must be careful at customs, and steroids are on top of their list of things that must be banned. It would set precedence if they made exceptions, and 'sport’ is their way of life, so they are not able to overlook the issue for anyone.
Unfortunately for Sylvester, he was at the wrong place, at the wrong time. He would have gone through customs in his home country, the USA, and what personal items he or his staff carried was obviously cleared or he wouldn’t have been able transport it, nor have any just cause to assume other countries would object to anything that is acceptable in the USA. Plus he did state he had read the laws, but the extent didn’t register to him or his crew.
I am sad to post this report, as I was in Australia at the time, I really wanted to see him, and this is by no means a stab at Sylvester Stallone, an all time wonderful actor. I am reporting on this topic to let everyone know that the hairy stuff that now goes on at the airports, affects all of us.
From what I had seen in Australia; Sylvester admirably held his head high, was very gracious to the Australians, and was calm during the happenings. He certainly was a gentleman through and through. Keeping your dignity when the press has their ups and down’s with you is a valuable lesson to be learned, and we can support him, by understanding how stressful it was, and fill up those theaters by watching his newest Rocky Balboa film. He deserves that much.
That’s a wrap,
